Awards to recognize exceptional copper applications in North American building projects
NEW YORK, NY— The Copper Development Association (CDA) has launched an architectural awards program to recognize and promote innovative uses and sound installation techniques of architectural copper and copper alloys in North American building projects.
The 1st Annual North American Copper in Architecture Awards program is sponsored by CDA in collaboration with the Canadian Copper & Brass Development Association (CCBDA). Award finalists will be announced in March.
The program is intended to increase public awareness and promote excellence in architectural copper design for buildings constructed throughout the United States and Canada during the past five years.
"We're very excited to be collaborating with the Canadian Copper & Brass Development Association in this effort to recognize exceptional uses of copper materials and applications in new residential and commercial building projects," said Andy Kireta Jr., CDA's vice president for building construction markets.
"Through this program, we will also be able to showcase the proper installation techniques of copper among professionals in the architectural and building construction community."
Members of CDA's and CCBDA's Building Construction Architectural Team have reviewed nearly 50 submissions throughout 2007.
A panel of judges, consisting of architectural and copper industry experts, will narrow this year's list of 47 nominees to three winners each in two separate categories - Historic Restoration and New Construction Several other projects will also be selected as honorable mentions for their specific uses of copper.
Projects identified for the 2007 awards included universities, houses of worship, government buildings, museums and residential complexes. The winners will be judged based on overall building design, integration of copper systems, craft of installation, and excellence in innovation or historic restoration.
The architects, and in some cases the contractors, will be honored with a commemorative plaque for their winning projects. CDA will also feature the award-winning projects on its Web site, www.copper.org.
