Click here for a high-resolution version of this photo.Copper roofing, flashing and a custom built cupola cap a new residence at Camp Barnabas in Purdy, Mo. The Copper Development Association (CDA), which represents manufacturers of copper used in a variety of building products, recently contributed 6,000 square feet of copper sheet metal for the largest "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" renovation to date - a summer camp in Southwest Missouri for children with special needs.
In just one week's time, the cast and crew of ABC's top-rated television show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," worked their magic at Camp Barnabas in Purdy (population: 1,103).
Click here for a high-resolution version of this photo.A new home was constructed for camp founders, Paul and Cyndy Teas, who purchased the 60-year-old camp using funds from their own retirement and savings accounts. However, the camp makeover didn't stop there. When the dust settled, Camp Barnabas had two additional new buildings, which will be used for a state-of-the-art media center and volunteer bunkhouse.
"When we heard of this very worthwhile project we responded with a 'ton' of copper," says Ken Geremia, communications director, CDA. "Actually, it was three tons of copper in all. We hope the Teas will enjoy their new home and that campers will benefit from the quality of the copper products provided."
CDA provided the copper sheet, which was fabricated and installed by Cowin Custom Sheetmetal of Bella Vista, Ark. Daniel Cowin, president, said the standing seam roof they installed will keep the Teas' new home looking good for many years to come.

Three new Camp Barnabas buildings were also outfitted with copper plumbing.
Every summer more than 1,000 children attend Camp Barnabas where they enjoy a traditional summer camp experience with horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, swimming, rock climbing and more.
The Camp Barnabas episode is tentatively scheduled to air on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on Sunday, October 16.

Barnabas is a non-denominational Christian summer camp where special needs children and their siblings experience an awesome, life-changing week of camp. The camp utilizes a predominantly volunteer summer staff and gives young adults the opportunity to serve God as they minister to the campers.
