Copper Development Association and Sustainable Minds Announce Webinar on Understanding Industry EPDs and HPDs

September 19, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mclean, VA— The Copper Development Association (CDA) announced it will participate in a webinar with Sustainable Minds, Understanding Industry EPDs and HPDs, on September 22 from 2:00-3:00pm ET. Erin Smith, CDA’s material stewardship project manager, will discuss innovative ways to leverage existing frameworks, such as ASTM/AMSE standards and the HPD Collaborative metal alloys special condition, to develop industry-based Health Product Declarations (HPDs).

Copper is one of the few materials to have products with HPDs verified by a third party. The verification enables a user to seek additional points under the recently revised Material Ingredients credits in LEED 4.1. CDA is working with Sustainable Minds, an online transparency catalog, to share the copper transparency documentation. The free, online catalog makes it easier for architects, engineers, and contractors to find and specify products with transparency disclosures.

“CDA is committed to bringing material health transparency to green and healthy building products.” Smith said. “The need to build structures that are healthy for their occupants and the environment, makes copper the top material choice for architectural and interior elements, building system controls, plumbing and HVAC equipment, and mechanical systems and appliances.”

The webinar Understanding Industry EPDs and HPDs is free of charge and will take place Thursday at 2pm ET. To register for the webinar, click here. To view CDA’s HPDs on Sustainable Minds, click here.
