McLean, VA— Andrew Kireta, Jr., vice president of market development for the Copper Development Association Inc. (CDA), is serving as 2020 chair of ASTM International, a leading developer and publisher of standards for the construction, aerospace, plastics, petroleum, and dozens of other industries.
Kireta joined ASTM International in 1998 and has been active on the Committee on Copper and Copper Alloys (B05) and several of its subcommittees. He joined the ASTM Board of Directors in 2014 and served as chair of the Finance and Audit Committee 2017 and vice chair in 2018-2019. In 2016 he received the ASTM Award of Merit, the highest award the society grants to an individual member, for his distinguished service and outstanding participation in committee activities.
“ASTM International continues to lead the way in areas ranging from driving innovation to fostering diversity and inclusion to developing cutting-edge products and services,” Kireta said. “I look forward to working with a dynamic staff, membership, partners, and other stakeholders as we continue to meet the mission of one of the world’s leading standards developers.”
Kireta has been with CDA since 1992, serving as Midwest regional manager for plumbing applications and manager of technical projects (tube, pipe and fittings) and architectural applications before being named vice president of building construction in 2008. He assumed his current role with CDA in 2010.
“During Andy’s quarter-century tenure with CDA, he has not only been integral in furthering the interests of the copper industry, but has established our organization as a thought leader with influencers, regulatory bodies and the end users served by our member companies,” said CDA President Thom Passek. “I have every expectation that that he will bring that same passion and professionalism to his role as the chair of ASTM.”
In addition to his work with ASTM, Kireta is involved in several other industry organizations, including the Safety Equipment Institute, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Kireta graduated from Purdue University in 1989 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He worked for an engineering firm for two years before joining CDA.
