Trade Organization Applauds Rep. Tonko’s Designation as Conferee and Looks Forward to a Comprehensive Energy Bill Emphasizing Sustainable Energy Rebates and Infrastructure Development
NEW YORK, NY— The Copper Development Association (CDA) is encouraging the conference committee appointed to resolve disparities between the House and Senate energy bills to produce legislation inclusive of each bill’s measures regarding energy efficiency, sustainability, and infrastructure. In addition, the copper industry lauds the designation of Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY), a proven advocate for reliable and efficient energy infrastructure, to the conference committee.
CDA views the conference committee as a prime opportunity to ensure the nation’s future as a leader in energy reliability and security as well as environmental sustainability. Copper’s unique properties make it a crucial partner in reaching America’s energy ambitions. The metal’s supreme reliability and electric and thermal conductivity heightens the enduring dependability, energy efficiency, and operational longevity of solar and wind power generators, electric motors, and transformers.
Specifically, CDA supports the inclusion of Senate bill measures that deepen knowledge and promote the development of the electric grid, energy storage, and infrastructure, as well as those that encourage the replacement of inefficient electric motors or transformers through rebate programs. From the House bill, CDA is advocating for the inclusion of amendments that would modernize America’s energy infrastructure, security, and workforce.
“I ran for Congress because we have no clear, focused national energy policy, which should be one that promotes energy efficiency and renewable fuels, develops ‘green collar’ clean energy jobs, and trains a workforce to fill those new positions,” said Tonko, Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on the Environment and Economy. “We don’t have to choose between a strong economy and a sustainable environment – we can have both if Congress works at it and finds creative solutions to the challenges that stand in the way of that goal.”
“We’re excited to continue our relationship with Congress as they determine the legislation that establishes our nation’s energy priorities,” said Zolaikha Strong, CDA’s Director of Sustainable Energy. “A comprehensive energy bill should include incentives for consumers and businesses to invest in America’s energy future, married with an industry modernization through deeper insights and better technology.”
