The Studio Building in Portland, Oregon was built in 1926, housing dozens of rehearsal studios for musicians and actors preparing to perform at the Guild Theater next door. Since then, the eight-story building has been converted to office space above a restaurant that is a local dining favorite.

After decades of service, the existing original copper panel roof system had failed due to age. Working with Hennebery Eddy Architects, Harder Mechanical Contractors replaced it with 20-ounce copper panels that closely replicated the existing historical design. The team also fixed water-penetration issues and upgraded internal downspouts that had been undersized for current rainfall conditions while re-routing drain water to the north side of the building where downspouts could be better maintained.

Several factors made installation more difficult including weather challenges, the requirement to complete work while the building remained occupied and the need to protect pedestrians passing below.

These repairs addressed issues with the previous roof system, updating an almost 100-year-old building that now will only look better with age.
