Architects tla-architectes and contractor Toitures Trois Étoiles led an exemplary restoration of the kindergarten roof at Dawson College in Quebec. After stripping off a worn and unattractive asphalt shingle system, the team replaced it with the clean lines of a batten-seam roof system formed from durable 16-ounce copper panels.

When the building was down to its plank decking, the team installed new plywood sheathing and a membrane. They then topped that with copper elements including the roof, the soffit, the gutter system, the snow guard system, the window mansards, the ventilated ridge, and the louvers. The choice of copper not only helps integrate the kindergarten with other buildings across the Dawson College campus, but also maintains the historic character of Quebec, a city that has used copper extensively in architecture for hundreds of years.
