What was originally built in the 1920s as a refrigeration warehouse is now D.C.'s newest museum. Just steps away from the National Mall, visitors enter The Museum of the Bible through massive 40-foot-high bronze portals. The finalized design contains the first 80 lines of Genesis written in Latin, as originally printed in the Gutenberg Bible, but milled in reverse, to mimic the orientation of printing plates. The final step of panel completion involved application of a custom formulated patina, lacquered to mitigate environmental changes over time. Copper was also used by the design team for the museum’s roof. The primary metal roof system utilizes 20 ounce Freedom Gray for its radius and batten seam roof panel with diagonal transverse seams. In addition, a wall panel system was constructed with flat seam panels set in chevron pattern.
