Following damage caused by Tropical Irene and subsequent storms, nearly 20,000 pounds of 20 ounce copper were used to breathe life into the roof and onion dome of the Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church. The dome features 18 inch copper diamonds with a ¾ inch relief to give it a texture that is visible from the ground. At the tips of all the diamonds are 4.5 inch rosette/crosses attached with a single copper rivet and a dab of solder. The copper dome is about 90-110 feet up from the ground and provides a glimmering, iconic recognition point to the church.
