The design team harnessed New York City’s signature material to re-imagine affordable housing. The 80/20 affordable residential building on Brooklyn's East River waterfront incorporates a copper façade both for its beauty and performance. The 2 millimeters thick rainscreen cladding allows the building's HVAC system to "breathe" while providing a cost-effective and energy-efficient mechanical strategy. The design team's goal is that the building will continue to engage the public as it adapts over the course of its lifespan. Already, the once shiny orange façade has begun to darken into a green patina in some areas.
